August 16, 2021  Chick:[]

In order to make parents understand the school and the concept of Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institute and its requirements on a deeper level, and let the institute know the growth of students further, promote effective communication between family and institute and build education together so as to develop good style of study, College of International Collaboration (Houston International Institute) carried out virtual home visits hierarchically and multi-dimensionally on the summer vacation.

Initial Interview of Questionnaire Strengthens Communication

At the beginning of the summer vacation, the institute carefully designed “parents notice” and “parent-child interaction feedback questionnaire”. In the meantime, institute introduced the parent-child methods and strategies of communication with children to parents. Questionnaire reminded parents and students of the topic direction and focal points of communication, and required parents to submit the questionnaire within deadline. Then college would sort out and evaluate the effectiveness of parent-child communication content, so as to select one for the next home visit.

Wechat “Further Visit” to Promote Communication

More than half of the summer vacation has passed. It was different from the extensive scale of the first visit. For the student groups requiring further visits, secretary of the Youth League Zhang Jian and part-time instructor Wang Yunjie focused on the current epidemic prevention, holiday learning and living arrangements, college students' learning and career planning, social practice, confusion on the way of growth and then started the second visit. Further visit was the follow-up and feedback of daily communication, which further promoted the communication between the institute and part of parents.

Special Visual Interview for Growth

From August 12 to 13, Zhang Jinlei, dean of HII, Shao Guang, secretary of CPC committee of HII, and Jiantong, vice dean of HII, made video connections with 23 students’ families through Tencent Meetings in the institute’s meeting room. They introduced students' learning and performance at campus to parents, and jointly conducted in-depth exchanges on future academic planning and efforts, so that parents were able to understand students' “merits” and “faults” in school, listen to parents' “thoughts” and “concerns”, build a smart channel of mutual trust between family and school, and establish confidence for better completing their studies in the next step.

As a bridge for effective communication between home and institute, online visits not only create a good atmosphere for collaborative education between family and school, but also implement the fundamental task of moral education and 3-wide education. On the way of educating people, parents can take action, parents can participate. It also activates parents and family vitality, and improves parents' understanding of school talent training. Meanwhile, it can meet the society's expectations for high-quality education and lay the foundation for the trinity of education among school, family and society.
