Houston International Institute hold the program meeting in terms of E.E., C.E. and M.E. from 12nd, Oct. to 14th, Oct. With Dean Zhang Jinlei as the host, department’s chairpersons, head teachers and teachers to attend, the program meeting was held successfully. The main purpose of this meeting is to let students develop a deeper understanding on their programs and provide more directions and thoughts.
The different new start
New semester, new atmosphere. As he meeting started, Dean Zhang Jinlei gave a brief introduction to our institute’s unique pattern of “4+0” “3+1+1” “2+2”, informing the original intention in building the institute and the prospect. Houston International Institute is committed to training high qualified and innovative talents with patriotism and international vision, which would provide a strong support for Chinese manufacture to transform from “made in China” into “wisdom in China”. The institute, as a brand-new platform of international collaboration, has acquired academic resources with the highest quality from DMU. Dr. Zhang encouraged our students to treasure their time and seize opportunities in time by means of elaborating her own experiences when studying abroad. “Start here, Go anywhere”.
As a Chinese saying goes, “When I first heard the song, I couldn’t understand it, as I hear it again, I had been part of it.” The splendid blueprint had been shown to us through the speech of Dr. Zhang. It’s high time for the youth to set sail!
Start our new voyage
In the course of the meeting, three professional leaders emphasized on their professional courses, career prospects and fields of study.
Mr. Jingbo Zhang, the person in charge of the electronic engineering programs, introduced the cultivation plan in details and encouraged each student to determine the fields of study as soon as possible to make their own learning path more clear; Mr. Chunyi Cui, the person in charge of the civil engineering program, shared the career plan of the civil engineering program and encouraged everyone to cultivate great academic literacy, pursuing knowledge, and striving to be an internationalized talent; Mr. Zhijie Liu, the person in charge of mechanical engineering program, briefly described the development path and employment prospects of the mechanical program. Based on the practical needs of Chinese manufacturing industry, he analyzed the significance and general trend of the cultivation of innovative talents.
Professor Zhaogui Wang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bin Yuan, the head teacher of Class 1 of M.E., Xiaobang Wang, the head teacher of Class 2 of M.E., Peng Zhang, the head teacher of Class 2 of CE, and Shuaiheng Huai, the head teacher of Class 2 of E.E., combined their personal experience and academic backgrounds to present the students with learning objectives currently, and they all cheered for students’ dreams!
The inculcation of the teachers had reinforced the students’ understanding towards the program and triggered their insights about the program. “Born in the SARS and tested in COVID-19”, these students, are destined to be an extraordinary generation. They are required to grab the opportunity, weather the storm, learn how to encounter new chances in the crisis, and open a new territory in the variation. Also they need to take the program as the starting point, make the ambition as the sail, with fair physical and mental quality, to explore the unknown.
Be the best of yourself
Through the program meeting, students get to know that there is a long way to go during the four-year study in DMU. However, the more troubles and sufferings we meet, the more growth we will witness. “Thinking, there will be a lot of obstacles; Doing it, and the answer will come out. Standing still, you will always be the audience.” Said Mr. Jian Zhang. Just a few words went through all the way to the hearts of students.
The successful conclusion of this meeting marks a brand new beginning for all the students of Houston International College. No matter the future is the storm, or the reef, there will be such a group of students full of smile, full of youthful spirit. Grasp the youth, live up to the full, know the long-way away, keep to the root, bear love in heart, be kind, and set out towards the sea!
