A visit to DMU Exhibition Hall
On the occasion of the 111th anniversary DMU’s foundation, in order to raise students’ awareness of the glorious history of China's maritime education’s development, deepen the love and honor towards the University, and strengthen the appreciation education, Houston International Institute organized students to visit the DMU exhibition hall to explore the spirit of the university in the afternoon on 21st-Oct.
The View of the Exhibition Hall
Embraced with the love and eager to chase the history of DMU, the students stepped into the exhibition hall. And the first thing in their eyes was a vast white star sky shining above the hall, carrying the continuous exploration of science and truth by older generations.
Looking down, a magnificent evolution map slowly spread out of the ground. In form of three rivers flowing into the ocean, the picture showed students DMU’s profound development history. Walking into the museum, each exhibition stand displayed the remains of voyage with their historical marks, telling us the centurial vicissitudes in DMU. On the exhibition wall, there were precious memorials and previous pictures of people who had made contributions to the establishment of DMU, which would be kept in our mind forever.
On the huge Alumni Association map, the star-like distribution of the DMU’s alumni will always have the immortal spirit of being DMUers and the persistent belief of exploring the ocean and contributing to the society.
The most dazzling item in the exhibition hall is the glittering awards and heavy trophies. It is the pursuit and dedication of generations of DMU's students, who have cast the historical glory of the century-old university.
At the end of the exhibition hall, a simulated landscape of DMU stands there, showing the spirit of DMU today. The university motto of "To acquire universal knowledge, to offer virtuous assistance" has been engraved into our hearts.

The school history museum demonstrates every achievement and harvest of DMU in the course of its growth in the storm. Walking into the old photos, it seems that we have got back to the glorious and impressive history of DMU. To witness the history is far more exciting. Seeing these, our hearts are not only sighing, but also full of pride.

What DMU History Museum has to offer to us is not only to get closer to the history and culture of DMU, but also let us know DMU's high expectation towards us. The constellations above the head, history beneath our feet, slightly dilapidated but very simple classical student records and student ID in the exhibition cabinet, and gifts given by friends around the world, etc, these let us know the profound and broad impact of DMU. I seem to hear her call to us: call us to always remember the blue gene and red blood, call us to bear the spirit of the sea forever in mind, call us to get out of here, to the stage by name of the WORLD!

As for me, when I first received the admission letter, DMU was just a vague concept in my mind. When I stepped onto the land beside the Bohai Sea, a strong feeling connected me with DMU. It was DMU's meticulous concern and tolerance for her children, and her firm, rigorous, diligent and pioneering spirit. This kind of feeling impels me to strive in the direction that DMU hopes me to move forward, motivates me to advance towards the established goal of DMU and encourages me to contribute to the rejuvenation of the motherland.

As a student of DMU, I will always keep in mind of the motto of DMU: To acquire universal knowledge, to offer virtuous assistance; always remember the DMU spirit of firmness, rigor, diligence and pioneering. Once studying in the DMU, always be a DMUer.
As the host commented, I unconsciously reached the end of the exhibition hall. This visit gave students a deeper understanding of the university, a deeper understanding of the 111-year history of the DMU and the arduous development of Chinese maritime industry, arousing students’ sense of honor, recognition and pride for the university. Apart from that, this event helps to promote and motivate HII students to study hard and devote themselves to Chinese maritime industry!
