
In order to promote the all-round development and self-realisation of students’ cognition, emotion and learning ability, further cultivate the college’s “three-wide education” culture, guide students to pay attention to integrating theory with practice, and cultivate students’ character of making good use of knowledge to ensure the steady progress, the College of International Collaboration (Houston International Institute) had carefully designed and built the student growth leading activity - “HII Zhixing Lecture”, which started recently. The first lecture was the “Heartfelt Messages from Teachers” section themed by “of studies”, which was jointly delivered by dean Zhang Jinlei, secretary of CPC committee Shao Guang and deputy dean He Jiantong.
Taking “The Power of Habit” as the starting point, in light of the current situation of the dual-language challenges and curriculum difficulties faced by the students during the learning, Zhang Jinlei explained to the students the three dimensions to form good habits, namely, cultivating good learning habits, daily behavior habits and interest habits, and then she emphatically introduced the methods of habit formation. She also led the students to deeply understand the essence and connotation of Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institutes, so that the students changed from ignorance to partial awareness, from partial awareness to fully understanding. She encouraged students to seek truth, goodness and beauty at Houston International College to reap growth and success.
Starting with “3 Questions in Life” and combining with “Knowing & Doing” “Knowledge & Action”, Shao Guang explained the connotation of “Knowing” and doing” to the students in detail, guided the students to organically combine theory and practice both in and out of class, encouraged everyone to promote practice with knowledge and integrate knowledge with practice, and said that the college would “seek for all possibilities for students” to ensure their growth and success.
Combined with the feedback on the students’ questionnaire in the course of the mid-term teaching inspection, He Jiantong answered the students’ worries about mixed teaching and confusions about learning methods. At the same time, he talked about his views on “how to learn” and put forward requirements for the construction of learning style. He vividly analysed the “step-by-step”, “choose the best in a wholistic view”, “adjust measures to local conditions” and “seeking truth from facts” four idioms and deeply explained their internal relationship, then encouraged students to seize the present, do it in the present and keep learning for a lifetime.

Students’ growth leading activity of “HII Zhixing Lecture” is made up of three sections, “Heartfelt Messages from Teachers”, “Peers View the World” and “On-Scene”. The College of International Collaboration would invite experts and scholars, school teachers, peer partners, alumni and parents’ representatives to share their fields of expertise or life insights with the students, so as to broaden students’ horizons, promote the positive interaction between students, students and teachers, and parents and children, and create a “3-wide education” system.
